69 SWB Project - Santa's L'il Hauler

First, the name...The truck was originally a Forest Green, but is now painted red, so if the project goes in the direction I'm thinking it's gonna get kinda "Christmas-ey".

I went ahead and traded for the 69 short fleet. Here are some almost "as delivered" pictures:

First step: (already done) Remove ugly tonneau cover and bedliner (that stuff just doesn't look right on a classic truck, in my opinion...)

Bed underneath was in better shape than some new trucks I've seen...little wire brush and it should be good to go. I'm about ready to use a wire brush on the foam adhesive tape that held the tonneau cover on (not really), that stuff is a PITA to get off:

Opinions?

The paint is a good 5-10 footer...looks nice going down the road, but has a lot of little flaws that would require a repaint to fix. Has gobs of clear coat that is peeling off in some places. I'm thinking of going the patina'ed shop truck look with it, cause that's my style...just need to come to grips with digging into a decent paint job:

More paint flaw pics...I think it might be cool to sand down to the green underneath in spots, but I may start first with wet-sanding it to dull it down, since that can probably be undone:

One of the biggest things I hate with these trucks is when the bottom of the doors doesn't line up with the rockers or cab corners. I think it comes from people replacing rockers and cab corners without the doors on, or not checking for correct fit:

Looks like a clean daily driver. As for the driver side door are the hinges worn out or maybe the door hinge area tearing apart?

Re: 69 SWB Project - Santa's L'il Hauler

Small update: Removed bed in preparation for "attitude adjustment" -- MERRY CHRISTMAS! A little cab cancer and a green cab back. Also had time to remove useless trailer hitch that someone already cut the ball mount off of:

I think I'm going to leave the front as-is, I think it has cut coils. For the rear I'm just going to put in air bags in place of the coils. It's about the cheapest solution to drop it a couple inches.

Re: 69 SWB Project - Santa's L'il Hauler

Small update: Doesn't look like much, but I've been doing a lot of things mechanically...new gaskets, air bags in back to get the ass end down, the beginnings of a new wheel/tire idea I have. Brakes...braking (looks like I need to find the proper proportioning valve, otherwise I'm good to go).

Transmission is leaking QUARTS of fluid...even after I replaced the pan gasket. Need to find where that's coming from...
