Methods/Cost to ship Tailgates - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Curious to know what you all have used to ship a tailgate -

Method (UPS, USPS, DHL, etc.) used and cost associated with it. I am looking to move a decent one from CA to me in OH...

Thanks for your input.

i have used dhl to ship large items in the past, they seem to be the less expensive than fedex and ups. greyhound is also a great option for large items and by far the cheapest shiping out there. us mail is expensive unreliable slow and they will always damage your item if it ever makes it to your door.

DHL is done with Ground delivery in the U.S. (Pretty soon, like the beginning of the year.) I've also heard that Greyhound is cheap.

Greyhound,for something like that,will save you a bundle if you and the other party can get to a station.

I shipped one from NM to SC for $50 via FEDEX.

all my parts are shipped by greyhound, pretty quick, cheap, and no damaged parts.

I didnt know greyhound did that. what do they do, throw it on a bus with other passengers?

I have shipped hundreds of motorcycle parts all over the U.S, Canada, and Australia. Including, tanks, fenders, full exhaust, rims with tires.

I always use Fedex and for the larger items, I will have them package it.

greyhound is the cheapest for big items, the only way you can really ship breakable items without the fed ex/ups loader monkeys using them as trampolines.

Guy said that Greyhound said that they can't ship it...wants me to pay $250 to use UPS or FedEx.

He is in Stockton, CA - I think he is trying to get his money back since it went for cheap on Ebay...

Remember you can file a complaint with Paypal and Ebay if you feel his shipping costs are out of line. He is allowed to charge for S/H but it cannot be outragous. Make a couple of calls and get an idea of what it would cost through UPS etc... before you contact him/Ebay.

Hope you get it figured out. Let us know what happens.

250 sounds about right. Once you get that big they charge an oversize fee.

Not when using any of the online quote providers...

I got quotes from Greyhound, UPS, DHL and FedEx

Greyhound = $78
UPS = $70
FedEx = $60
DHL = $56

I did with screen shots of the site quotes...I will also be calling Greyhound in the morning to see what they say.

Hopefully he is a stand up guy and makes this right.

i talked to a guy that ships out packages in one of those stores when i sent some seats out for a member and it was 130 bux and it went from ohio to tenn. but he said that for big ticket items use greyhound but he said its easier if you live near the terminal. also next best is fedex.....another route if you feel he is out of line have a fellow member pic them up for you and have them try to help you out if he doesnt want too..thats what i did and it really helped

Anybody in Stockton, CA want to pick up a tailgate and ship it to me via Greyhound if this guy chooses not to?

if your deal falls through i know we will have a great tailgate for sale in the near future and it would be local as my dad travels up ur way alot..but i hope things work out the best for you
