Re: How to take windshield wipers off?

Oh, thanks, I thought that's what it was, but I wanted to make sure.

I already have my hood/hinged/grill assembly/fan shroud and a few other things off. I've been working for an hour...

They make a tool for taking them off also. It grabs under the head and you pry it off.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Where do you get it? Adv Auto? NAPA? AutoZone?

Hopefully yours won't be as bad as mine were to remove. I had to cut mine off with a die-grinder. They were rusted on that bad! Remember to shoot some WD-40 in there and let it penetrate really good before you start prying.

PB blaster works better than WD-40

Re: How to take windshield wipers off?

I don't remember any "button" being on the wiper arms of these trucks. On the '88-up, yeah. That's the reason you need the tool. Yes, NAPA has them, or they can order them.

there is a small clip/button that needs to be pressed to release it. need atleast a flat head screw driver to pry it up. use a shop rag to help prevent damage to the cowl

Re: How to take windshield wipers off?

Reckon that's why I bought the tool....my ability to contort my body with my poor near vision as an aggravation factor makes using the tool a no-brainer for me. With my documented brain damage (stroke), I need all the help I can get. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe, I'll go out and look for the button on the wipers that I have already removed.

I have a tool similar to the pic I posted above, and it has a cork pad on the bottom to protect the cowl. A little more protection is not a bad idea, though...

Re: How to take windshield wipers off?

If it isn`t froze on,all you do is raise the wiper off the windshiels as far as you can and pull up on the oppositeend of the cup that sits on the shaft and it`s off.I don`t use any tool at all.A rag and a screwdriver for tougher ones.I`d like to have a special tool now that I know they`re made.

Re: How to take windshield wipers off?

^^ I did 'em that way before I found the tool -- pretty sure it cost me less than $8.
