I have a 71 c-10 w/ 307 thats stock, 3 on the tree. Any idea on what the RPM redline would be?

I'd guess 5000 RPM...although a stocker 307 would probably be out of breath by then.

Just remember, you have a 40 year old motor and if it has never been rebuilt, it might be getting a little tired. Although small blocks are durable they are not immortal. If you wind it out to 5000 rpms on a regular basis, you will more than likely be looking for a replacement.

Thats exactly what I'm concerned with. I want to drive her, but I also want to be able to rebuild this engine. I have a Tach ready to be installed and would like some opinions on what revs to keep her from.

The shorter 3.25" stroke will rev pretty good. It should be able to handle 6000 revs. However, the stock wheezy heads are limited on top end power. As mentioned above, she'll be out of breath by 5000 rpm.

I had a 67 327 that was good up to about 4500 when it would fall flat on it face after that

Two observations, not be taken personally.

1. I see no reason to take the old 307 past 4500 rpm, it will be all out breath by then anyways.

2. I see no reason to rebuild a 307 with so many 350 engines out there if you are concerned about performance. If you're not concerned about performance, then just shift at 3000 rpm and call it a a day.

Keep it on the lower RPM range. Want a real boost? Put a Comp Cam 260 cam and fresh timing chain in it. You will not believe the drastic improvement it will make. The factory cams were weak in every way.

Just feel of it , you can tell when it has had enough . be gentle and it may last a long while more.

I would dare to say that it is all done making the most power and torque by 4250ish. Any more revs that that you are just reving it up for revings sake
