Cool New Forum member

Hi guys! I just bought my gem. '70 K10 truck. I know a little about it and was hoping you could help. It has a 350. What transfer case does my truck have? It has manual locking hubs and an automatic trans, probably a th350. I cannot figure out the 4x4 shift pattern as I cannot find a definate answer anywhere else. I paid 375 for the truck and it runs. I am currently rebuilding the brakes on the front. What kind of axle ratios are in the rear gears? I have a 12 bolt. Is the rear end posi or not? Just some beginner questions I am asking here

from South Texas. With trucks as old as these you can't be sure what came in it is still there but I'm sure some of the more "seasoned" members will chime in with some ideas on what might have came in it from the factory. You might also want to post up your vin.

Welcome to the board!! If it is a factory posi rear end, it will be listed as an option on the glove box sheet.

Re: New Forum member

If original, it's an NP205. Shift pattern from front to back is:

4Lo
N
2Hi
4Hi

Again if original drivetrain and no optional ratio on SPID label, a K10 V8/Th350 would have 3.07 gears.

Of course over the years anything could have been swapped in

Re: New Forum member

WELCOME!!Check for a red plastic tag on one of the rear cover bolts,it could still be there from factory.
Check ratio real easy(and for posi):
*Make a mark on the tire and the groung in the same spot.
*Jack up one rear wheel.Does it spin? Not posi.
*Make a mark on the deflector behind where the u-joint is and on the
differential at the same point.
*Spin the tire and count how many times the driveshaft spins for one spin of your tire.

If it turns just past 3,it`s a 3.07
If it turns just shy(about a 1/4 turn)of 4,it`s a 3.73
If it turns just past 4,it`s a 4.10
