removing instrument cluster / oil line

How hard is it to remove the instrument cluster from my 69 GMC?

Can I simply unlock the oil line to the cluster and then hook it back up again when reinstalling it. I would assume that I should not start the truck with the oil pressure line disconnected.

I already have the light switch out, the wiper knobs off and the screws out. It is sitting there only be the wires etc that are connected.

You'lll need to unscrew the oil line, which is pretty simple. THen there's the large plug right next to the oil line and the speedo cable. Then it should come right out. Careful not to scratch your steering column doing it.

Just don't crank the motor over with it unplugged and it's all good.

Also there should be some sort of round "table" under each knob. They might be chrome or black but will screw right off either way.

I am trying to track down why my right rear brake light won't work. I found a bad wire under the box, but that didn't fix it. I have disconnected the plug for the rear wiring at the fire wall and when I jump power to the plug all works fine out back......

My signal lights don't work at all........

Any suggestions or help with that?

Check the 4 way flashers... the knob is commonly broken off, and when some one turns them on and can't get them off, they will commonly remove the fuse or the flasher which causes odd things to happen.
If the flasher is in, and all the fuses are good, I would instatly suspect the turn signal switch. Hold the brake pedal down, and wiggle the turn signal lever up and down, and lightly push and pull forward and back... have an assistant yell if that brake light comes on while you do this. If it does, get a new turn signal switch assembly.

Thanks, that worked well, the cluster is out and the brake lights are working.

Not the signals though, I will post a seperate post for that.
