A/C woes for 2004 silverado

Any A/C buffs around? My compressor locked up on my '04. What would be the way to fix? Pull compressor and flush system?

ok, that's what I figured. What would you use to flush the system out with?

Re: A/C woes for 2004 silverado

There should be flush kits available, I used one where I had to pour into a separate bottle and pressurized with shop air... flush through, add oil to accumulator if needed, install orifice tube. Make sure to drain oil from compressor and charge with correct amount and type of oil. If possible replace any O-rings at the block fittings to help prevent leaks. Pull vacuum and charge if no vacuum leak is found.

NAPA will be twice the price of other Auto parts stores. You can get a brand new Delphi compressor with clutch from Autozone for $340. Same compressor is over $600 at NAPA.

Re: A/C woes for 2004 silverado

If this thread is otherwise done, I have a related question. I have a brand new compressor, accumulator, and orifice tube, and today I charged my system to 60 psi when the ambient temp was about 100*F. It blows ice cold, but the problem is that it still cycles off frequently when I'm driving. I can constantly feel it going from cold to warm about every 30-45 seconds. At idle, it stays on and blows cold. What the hell do I need to do?

Charged to 60 psi ? How much refrigerant did you charge into the system? Did you flush the system, pull a vacuum before recharging ?

Re: A/C woes for 2004 silverado

60psi omg!!! Pressures should be around 35-45 on the low side and 175-250 on the high side. If you charged to 60 psi your more then likey hitting the high pressure out off on the high side

Rockauto.com carries both Delphi and delco compressors for around ~$200.

Even with the ambient temp around 100*F? At 40 PSI my air was not very cold.

Re: A/C woes for 2004 silverado

Okay, so my actually pressure 57 PSI and everything I can find says at anything over 90*F low side pressure should be 50-55 PSI. I'm pretty spot on. If I release refrigerent will it be more difficult for the compressor to pull it down?
