71 fuel pump/sending unit

Hello - can anyone tell me why I have two fuel line running from the sending unit on my 71 to the fuel pump. The fuel pump also has two inlets, and one outlet. One is a 3/8 and the other is a 5/16 line. I don't understand why there are two.

Any help is appreciated

Re: 71 fuel pump/sending unit

One (5/16) is a fuel return line from the pump.
