I've been running the 50 series 3 chamber flowmasters on the '68.
It sounds good but obviously has the "chambered" sound. A buddy of mine has a set of Dynomax bullets and it sounds great. It's not a full exhaust so it's really deep sounding.

I'm thinking of changing to a non-chambered style muffler. So far I'm considering dynomax ultrflow, the dynomax race bullet, magnaflow race and maybe even flowtech. Does anyone have any experience with any of these?
I want to have a deep tone at idle and a raspy sound at WOT. I DON'T want it to sound like a pair of glass packs. Nothing wrong with glass packs, I just don't want them on this particular truck.

Also, I forgot to mention I have a full exhaust all the way out the back.

Personally, I like flowmasters. Just bought a pair of Super-40's today for my 69.

Muffler choice is a difficult question to ask someone. What one guy loves, the next guy hates. Its a personal thing. Ive got 40's on my big block with a nice cam lope & I like the sound. I also know a guy that has them on a stock small block & they sound totally different. I still think the cheap Summit/Thrush turbos have the sweetest sound, I tried the flows just because Ive never had them & they look like they will last more than a year...

Yah it's totally personal. I was just wondering if anyone had used a set of some of the straight through design on a full exhaust and liked the way it sounded.

I am in the same dilemma. I have about 500 bucks Worth of exhaust down in the garage and I down know what I want. I am still thinking about the Purple Hornie's. Gonna cut the ends off the collector type and mount them to the end of my exhaust.

I just bought a set today of Flowmaster Hushpower II .....can't wait to hear what they sound like. On Flowmasters site you can listen to the different sounds

i have a 350 with headers, and 3 inch bullets, using all 3 inch pipe. it's a loss of power with pipe that large, but it's the loudest truck with mufflers i guarantee

I have flow masters ex but not out the back it comes out in front of the rear tires under the steps so there shorter and thay have the depest hallow sound you might try shorting them before getting new ext good luck with it. 68 stepside 411 gears 350 and man does sound nasty!!!!!!!!!

going for the best of both worlds I bought a pair of electric waste gate cutouts on ebay to argument the stock type cans I run out the back (headers on a big block with dual 2.25 and crossover )..this guy has some killer deals at the moment on ebay. I have never run open exaust before and intend to be careful when and where i do flip that switch..

Well I bit the bullet and bought a set ot the Dynomax Ultra Flow Race Welded Mufflers. I'll let ya'll know what I think and how it sounds. Worst case scenario, I put the Flows back on

another thing to consider---Flowmaster has lost a few patents over the past couple years and other companies are producing mufflers identical looking and sounding to Flows. cherrybomb makes a muffler that looks and sounds like the original 40 series flowmaster--they have a whole line of NEW mufflers and are not the cheapo mufflers that you used to buy out of a barrel for $4.99 at the local parts house. we also get a copy of the 40 series thats made in mexico, my boss calls them "mexican flowmasters" and they look and sound exactly like flows without the name stamped into them. both these mufflers are way cheaper too.
