Flip kit Questions

Okay.. Bout to do a flip kit on a 86 silverado.. couple of questions.. I attached a picture of the shackles and hangers (correct me here if I'm wrong on the names) I am trying to do this without removing the bed.. and not doing a c-notch right now..
1. Is this correct from factory? (image)
2. the top bolt on this is hard to get to with the bed on.. can I just remove the bottom bolt from this and remove the leaf spring or do both bolts need to come out?
3. Anyone else done a flip kit with the bed on?

Removing the bump stops as well..was just gonna grind off the rivets.. any easier solutions?

Thanks

Re: Flip kit Questions

Yes, you can remove it from the top or bottom bolt.

Re: Flip kit Questions

Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Yes, this is correct from factory.
2. Yes, you can just remove the bottom bolt and remove the leafs like that.
3. I have done the flip kit with the bed on and also did the c-notch. Also removed the bracket with the bump stop. I ground down the rivets in order to take them off.

Hope this helps.

Re: Flip kit Questions

Mine was so easy with the bed off. Definately worth the 45 mins it took to take it off. I had to reinstall my factory shackles an hangers to, so it just made everything a lot easier with it off. The older i get the less i like working on stuff an having to lay in the floor

Re: Flip kit Questions

Okay thanks.. Last night I was trying to get everything loosened up while it was still on the ground.. had the biggest issues with the lower shock bolt breaking free? Tried a little heat, pb blaster.. Do you think I should try and releive some pressure on the bolt by jacking up the rear differential or is that even an issue?

Re: Flip kit Questions

On the rivets, if you have a grinder then use a cut-off wheel and cut an "X" in the head first. The perfect way to remove them after that is with an air chisel, then punch the shank through. If you do not have air, a chisel and sledge will get the job done. You can also just grind, which is much easier after the "X" is cut. Just grinding itself will work but it's tedious!
