Unhappy temp gauge problem

the temp gauge in my 70 cst must be shorting out or something. it's pegged hot, even after I installed a new sending unit and a new gauge. does anyone know where each of the four posts on the back of the gauge lead to? It would probably work if I could bypass the printed circuit. any help would be greatly appreciated!

The green wire that is on the sending unit...trace it back to teh firewall. See if it is melted on the manifold or something like that.

I vote for a burnt wire. Happend to me as well. Manifolds get pretty hot. If the wire is good, unplug it from the sensor and it should go back to cold, then your sensor is bad. Otherwise, grab your schamatic and start tracing it throught the bulkhead connector because you've got a short somewhere. The printed circuits are easiest to look at with the dash out, that is once you figure out which wire on the connector is the one you want.
