Wheel painting idea......need opinions

Well, I can't afford to buy the wheels I really want, so I thought I'd try another idea with the wheels I have. What I want is the 17" Torque Thrust II with the gray spokes. Since American Racing offers about every wheel in polished and some kind of gray except the Hopsters, I thought I'd try my own version. The Hopsters aren't overly popular like the TTII's, but it would still be cool to have something a "little different", if I can say that without sounding too cliche.

I've been toying with this idea for about a year and a half, but finally got the nerve to try it. The color I used is alot darker than what AR uses, but so far, I've not been able to find anything close without having something custom mixed. I'm still gonna look around for a lighter color to match my engine and interior better.

I want your opinions, your honest opinions. Don't worry about hurting my feelings. I'm kind of on the fence with this myself, so your thoughts will help determine which way to go.

Re: Wheel painting idea......need opinions

I like it as well. I had cast center TII's on order for mine, but at that time, I was on about the 12th week of waiting and Newstalgia gave me the Vintecs for the same price.

You could also get the American 3 bar knock offs for those after their all painted.

They look great painted. I don't think that color is to dark. Get the fronts done and take some more pics.

I like them much better painted. They are different than the masses. Gives them some class.

Man, that looks great. I had never even thought of doing that to the Hopster's. May have to borrow that idea.

I like.I might even suggest a darker color and the lighter drums would set it off.

Re: Wheel painting idea......need opinions

A polished rim with a darker center always looks good. Black would be overkill, but the grey you used or even a touch darker, is nice.

I like the toned down look of the painted center. kind of a nostalgic cast look.

Looks much sharper than the unpainted wheel. I have an idea. How about painting the spokes and hub the same color as the truck? I think that would look great.

Re: Wheel painting idea......need opinions

Thanks for all the replies, guys! My wife doesn't like them painted at all. She really didn't even entertain the idea of me painting them just to see how it looked. I'm gonna take it to the rod run this weekend and see what kind of reaction I get. I totally agree with the tri-bar spinners.

Here's some shots with both wheels painted.
