I had no idea that brake cleaner is any different than carb cleaner. I have always used them interchangably.

Hey Hottrucks if it wasnt for my son wanting a Blazer or jimmy for a father son build I would have never seen this at all. This board is so specialized and broken down that unless you check it all out your liable to miss something.
Thank you for posting it to begin with. Hopefully someone will make it a sticky on the main site for all to see.

Re: This should be posted in every section for anyone who welds.

Many of the refrigerants and solvents will make Phosgene gas when burned. R12 is really bad. The worst part is that smokers suck the chlorine gas through the burning cigarette and sucking the phosgene gas in with the smoke.

I have inhaled some phosgene gas myself. No fun. My symptoms were no where near as bad as that fellows.

And not all brake cleaner have chlorine in them. READ the lable! Or better yet, look up the MSDS for the products.

That's horrible. Is there a safer braker cleaner out there? Do we need to use one without Chlorine? I don't use carb cleaner or break cleaner to clean prior to welding. I use silicone and wax remover from paint shops. Seems to be ok. Need to read that label now.

alot of brake cleaners are non-chlorinated, I noticed this on cans before, but never knew why you would want them to be chlorine-free...I thought it was bad for brakes or something.

Don't quote me on this but I have seen BRAKE CLEAN in a green can I think that it's chlorine free.....I also remember hearing that it was an EPA thing because we all wash the brakes clean on to the floor or ground???

That red can label is on CRC Brake cleaner, it is the only one I have seen that acutally says this out of about 6 different brands.
