I think i may have hit my head today.
Well an odd thought came to my head today out of nowhere, i figure i may as well share it with you guys. I figured out how to make my 3spd floor shift truck damn near impossible to steal. Seeing as how now many people can drive a stick any more to start with, somehow it popped into my head to switch the shift rods and make the shift pattern backwards. Even if you knew how to drive a 3spd you would never figure it out. Call me crazy and laugh cuz i know its funny, but i think i may try it.

I guess the cold finally got to you!
I know what you are saying. My 65 mopar has a reverse pattern manual valve body with no first gear engine braking. I usually laugh when someone else drives it. Now go put a hat on...

Re: I think i may have hit my head today.
I honestly don't know where it came from, i haven't driven my truck since the last week of August i wasn't even thinking about my truck when it came into my mind, but it would be funny to watch someone else try to drive it.

Re: I think i may have hit my head today.
If you do that, record it and post it on youtube. The guy that sold me my truck had a 4 spd and he had a club on the steering wheel, battery disconnect switch, and a truckers chain wrapped through both front wheels with a huge master lock. He said he felt safe that way

Re: I think i may have hit my head today.
Put it back on the column. That would REALLY confuse the hell out of most thieves Even I got confused every once in a while and put 'er in the wrong gear.

Re: I think i may have hit my head today.
When I was 13 I "inherited" a VW rail buggy. I had to call someone and ask them how to get it into reverse. If you've driven one, you know what I'm talking about.

As for the club... anyone with a pop can and leather gloves can disable it in less time that it took to read this thread.

Re: I think i may have hit my head today.
20 yrs ago i had a 70 with 3spd the column broke so i had 2nd and third on column, for a while i drove it by rotating column under hood. to get reverse that got old fast so i drilled a hole in the floor and put a rod to the tranny. had 1st and rev on floor 2nd and 3rd on column. i left the keys in it and in reverse i figured if they could drive it they could have it

Unfortuantely i am one of those idiots, last time i "drove" a 3 on the tree it took like 20 min to find 1st and i never actually made it into any other gears, probably cuz it was a 68' burb for sale at the local wreckers that looked like it had been in a swap 30 years but still. |

Re: I think i may have hit my head today.
"hot rodding" and "speed shifting" was a hoot!! the rod on the floor needed to be pushed to go from 1st to neutral then grab column to go to second!! dont push the rod too far or yoy were grinding reverse. it was a 307 much more oomph than the vw bug i had b-4 that. i was 17-18 needless to say i was WELL known by the local pd. i drove it that way a few months b-4 puting a $50 hurst floor shifter on it.
