Has to be the stupidest question in a while....

I have truck buckets as I'm sure most of you are aware by now considering the amount of annoying questions I ask. I have stripped the covers off of my seats and the foam is in good shape, but the frames are BADLY rusted. To fix the rust I want to remove the foam. But I can't see how to separate the foam from the frame without destroying the foam. Any suggestions? I can feel the spring, but they feel like they are sandwiched in between the foam. But the foam seems to be one piece. At a total loss and a standstill :/

Thanks for the bump and for the advice. I will look again tomorrow, but I thought I removed all the hog rings I could find. I may have missed one though. I will try and get some pics tomorrow and see if you guys can point out where in particular I should go next.

I Although I am not certain what you mean by "sandwiched in between the foam" (perhaps the foam has split at the springs and has worked it's way down and over them, this isn't unheard of), if the foam is in salvageable condition here is what you could do. First check to remove any hog rings that might be holding it to the frame or springs. If the foam is stuck to the perimeter of the frame it could very well be that the rust is actually holding it on or there may also be some glue holding it to the frame. Usually I will use pressurized steam to loosen the foam. If you do not have access to a steamer you could just try using a razor blade or a sharp putty knife/scraper to slowly slice it away from the frame. If you are careful and slow you can usually get it off intact. Since it is on the bottom of the foam if some of it gets chunked off or split open you can glue it all back together and then line it with a dense felt (such as trunkliner) or something similar for the part of the foam over the frame. For the part over the springs an old trick is to reinforce the foam with some cut pile carpet placed nap down. All that said, without seeing the seats I am just taking a guess at the problem you are dealing with. Anyhow, GL.
