Exterior Rubber Window Wipers Installation

I bought a pair for my '53 truck, and after looking at both side windows cannot figure out how they attach. The interior felt ones are stapled or screwed on to the interior molding but I am not sure about the exterior rubber ones. Anyone who can help? Thanks in advance.

drill a very small hole and hold them on with small screws... a lot of places that sell the kits also sell a special drill with a stop (so you don't go through to the outer door skin) and the small screws to hold them in place..

Don't forget the rubber wipers just below the window opening in the door, it slides in from the center

Re: Exterior Rubber Window Wipers Installation

Straightaxel, thanks for the reply. Those (outer rubber wipes) are the ones I am talking about. What do they slide in to? All I see on the door frame (outside part) is a lip that is a slight V shape at the bottom. Plus the fact that there is the part that sticks out (a brace). I am attaching a couple of pictures of what I see. Does the bottom of the rubber strip fit into this V shaped groove? Do you glue the bottom in with Loctite adhesive or clear silicon or as was suggested do you attach it with screws? Do you install it before putting the window assembly back in or after the window glass is in place? As you can see this has me baffled. The felt (interior) wipes were easy to install to the interior molding, but the outter rubber wipes are not as easy to figure out. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Exterior Rubber Window Wipers Installation

That does not look like the doors on my 55 or 53, show us a pic of the rubber wiper, end view
My doors had a channel and one large end on the rubber that slid into the grove in the channel from the center, left and right

This is about as good as I can get a photo of it. As you can see looking at the end, one side goes straight down while the other side flares out.

Re: Exterior Rubber Window Wipers Installation

Good news. I found out how to slide the rubber wipe into the groove. Using a thick soap and water solution made it go in much easier. I actually thought that my door had the top of the channel missing but the top lip serves as the top part of the channel. A poor design but it fits so I am happy.
