Re: Contemporary GM Flint Assembly Plant Video w 71 C10 Super

Nice. My alma mater - thank you for posting that.

I was out that way on Friday and thought about stopping and taking some pictures of my Flint built truck in front of the Rotunda (the rounded main entrance). I'll have to do that some other time.

You'll notice in the "plant tour" they refered to the paper on the front of the truck as a "rider". That's what you or I would call the build sheet. Incidentally, I used to give the plant tours when I first started there as a student. Visitors would stand and watch the body drop with fascination for as long as you would let them.

One minor correction: the first 300 Corvettes were not built in the assembly plant proper, but in a smaller building on the North East corner of the property called the GM Area Research Center (GMARC). The facility supported advanced assembly processes and future products before moving the technologies into the actual production assembly plant(s). Sadly, that building is no longer there.

Lots of things not original on that truck. Rims, grill, steering wheel were contemporary. The engine was original looking. Can't imagine how many parts were Taiwanese. None the less thanks for sharing Pete. Hope your staying warm man.

All my 72s (three, GMC and Chevy - it's a sickness!) are Flint built. Kudos to Flint!
