Tailgate Band Opinions

So, I'm getting ready to start re-assembly of my 75' now that my cousin has everything painted but the hood. I am now debating about trim. I want to reuse all the stainless trim that was originally on the truck, and I am going to use the "Dumbo" mirrors (as stated in an earlier post, I forgot to have my cousin weld the holes in the doors prior to paint) but now I find myself not sure on what tailgate trim to use. I have my original 75' stainless band that is 99% perfect with only one small dent in the lower edge. I have a chance to purchase a NOS 81-87 band which is 100% perfect. Or should I roll with the smaller 73-80' band which I also have and is in good shape? What do you guys all think? Im curious what other's out there think.

I'd use the small one also. I hate the look of the 81-87 bands. You could also do like what has been done to f.monroe's black truck. The Chevrolet letters are painted white, and his truck is black. I think it looks good, and it would work for you now until you find the correct NOS band.

Re: Tailgate Band Opinnions

I like the small one, I bought one for my '78.

I like the smaller band better if you have the two-tone side trim, but I like the bigger band if you don't have any trim. Plus you don't see the smaller bands too often.

Here's a side by side of my old 87 and my 78

Here's one from the net. The big 73-80 band

I like the smaller one on the 73-80's. That's what I got,so I might be alittle bias'd.
One option you have for your trim is if you arent going to two tone it, put on the front upright one and the top trim piece. It makes it like a nice chrome pinstripe affect (with one color)

Re: Tailgate Band Opinnions

I vote for the original or the smaller one. Probably would lean towards the smaller one as they seem more "unique".

Then you could pass the info for that NOS 81-87 one on to me...
*EDIT - Its probably a Chevy and I need a GMC?!?

Re: Tailgate Band Opinnions

kevinr1970,
Yes, it's for a Chevy. My source is Classic Bowties, I found his post here in the classifieds. I'm trying to meet up with him this weekend to purchase a NOS hood he has and I inquired about his NOS 81-87 band. It's never to late to convert to a Chevy............
