67 C-10 5.3 swap questions

This is my first post, so go easy on me. I'm in the process of restoring the 67 c-10 longbed stepside my late grandpa bought new. Decided to do a 5.3 LS/ TH400 swap to make it a little more fun to drive than the original 250 / 3 speed. Here is the question....is there a set of mounts available to bolt the 5.3 up to my 6 cylinder frame towers? Thanks in advance.

Not a 100% but I think if you search "Dirty Dingo" is a company out of AZ that makes those.

Check this section out, there is a FAQ section that may have your answer. I think being a 2wheel drive makes it easier. Maybe ask a moderator to move your post there and it might get more traffic.

Speed and performance makes adapter plates as well as many other places, you can also find templates to make the mounts yourself.

Check out the section of the forum dedicated to LSx swaps in the engine and drivetrain section of the forum.

Re: 67 C-10 5.3 swap questions

I used the dirty dingo mounts and adapters. the motor bolted right to the 6 cylinder towers with what I feel is good clearance.

Re: 67 C-10 5.3 swap questions

Just curious why you would do a TH400 with a 5.3? If you have the computer, you may as well put a 4L60E and get the benefits of overdrive.

Re: 67 C-10 5.3 swap questions

Thanks for the info everybody.

chasinhiway, can you give me the particulars on what you ordered from dirty dingo? There are a ton of choices there and I'm not sure what to pick.

MARKDTN, I'm doing a carb swap on the 5.3 so thats the reason for using the turbo 400. I'm a lot more comfortable with a carb and think it fits in a little better with the old truck.

Re: 67 C-10 5.3 swap questions

These are the adapters I used:

http://dirtydingo.com/store/index.ph...=1_206_305_335

They also sell the engine mount itself that I bought. The passenger side rubber mount has to be trimmed at the bottom and theirs comes trimmed. I called them and told them what I was doing and they told me what would work.

You could get a 700r4 and get locking torque converter and overdrive without a computer. Thats what I'd do with a carbed 5.3. I've got one in my 71 with a 402

Re: 67 C-10 5.3 swap questions

I will probably be flamed, but to me there is absolutely no reason to carburate an LS. They are made to be fuel injected. It will not cost any more to inject it than carb it and you will be SO FAR ahead in reliability and mileage. Flame away, but that is my .02
