Help me ID my Rear-end.... for drum brake rebuild - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

hey all, im flipping thru my lmc truck mag, but the rear end id in here pretty much only seems to id DANA rear ends. i need to order new drum hardware, but i of course have to know what im running to do so. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

You don't give a guy much info to go by but I'm guessing you have a 3/4 or 1 ton. If so the 3/4 would be the Eaton Corporate or HO52 rear axle. If it is a 1 ton it would have the HO72. Good luck finding parts for it. You might be able to find some of the smaller stuff but if you need drums you will have to find some good used ones...

Look on the right axle tube, on the top of it, and you should find a group of letters and/or numbers.

Also, what does your SPID (if it is still in the truck) say?

I only count 10 bolts. According to some of my reference materials....it's quite possible that it is just that...a 10-bolt. Since I see coil springs, you don't have a 1-ton.

BUT disc conversions are availabe.

Looks like an HO52 in a Chevy C20 to me. Can't be a 1 ton since it has coils and it's not a Dana or a 12 bolt.

its not a ten bolt, it is the corperate/eaton HO52. Most parts stores list dana or non dana.

I got new drums for my 71 C20 with the same rear from either Autozone or Advance auto for about $108 each a few years ago.

They aren't available for the 1 tons that I could find, I looked for my wrecker project.

Being that it is a 2wd, you should be able to source all drum brake hardware from any good parts house.

I got spring kits, shoes, and wheel cylinders from my local Napa store.
Drums are another story, and may take time to find.

If your drums are in good shape you can have them turned. My local NAPA turned my fronts for $10 each.
