Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

This is a cool project. With all of this truck's family history, it definitely deserves to be back on the road.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

Love the soup can fix. Use what you got right? I am still amazed at the condition of the truck after sitting all those years. From what I can see, the cab looks in very good shape. Is it as good underneath? Great project.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

The ol truck does have rusty areas in the cab. I agree it does look really good until you start digging in to it.

The roof and hood have very little paint left. The roof has no bubbles or perforations. The hood had a few in the very lower seam at the front.

Yup, I think your truck will handle much better than stock once you get it all back together

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

Met a forum member, Lostmy65, that had a donor cab available for a few pieces to be recycled into our truck.

Thank you 65!

NoLimit wideride. I have and do fabricate things myself, but sometimes you need to look at what you are trying to accomplish and weigh that against what may already be out there.

These are a well reguarded part that saves alot of time that I can be productive elswhere.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

Started cleaning up the rear of the frame. The trailing arms were very rusty from being on/in the ground. Fortunately the suspension kept the frame and body from being in contact with the dirt.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

More cleanup and rivet removal for the different crossmembers. Removing rivets is not one of the funner jobs.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

Prepping the crossmemebers from Tinworks. Needed a to do something for a transmission mount for the new automatic as a 4 speed was coming out. We also have here a new trailing arm cross member. Both have passages for the exhaust to go through.

Got the cab moved to make it easier to work on. Stock crossmembers removed. Frame cleaned up and painted from the front to the back of the cab. Here is the Nolimit crossmember installed.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

The ol hydraulic lift table came in very handy for this part. Both the first and second cuts were opened up 1 3/8". A plate was tacked in the gap of the horizontal flange of the frame. In the second picture you can see the beveled filler plate next to the protractor soon to be welded in.

Use jackstands and scissor jacks to level the frame in all directions. Essentially the frame is sitting on them at the radiator core support and the front and rear cab mounts. The hydaulic table is supporting the rear of the frame and is kept level side to side. Taking your time with this part pays off with the whole job.

The engine/trans and cab are all in place to provide some weight on the frame for stabiltiy.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection

The next two cuts and filler pieces tacked in to stabilize before final measuring.

Ideally the cut for the turndown after the axle should be a little further aft but that would have begun to complicate the mounting of the rear tank. If I do it over I would place that cut 3/4"-1" rearward. I still have good clearance for the axle at full compression as it is. Visually it would look better with that extra inch.
