67 C20 rear coil to leaf conversion

Hi All. Looking for some engineering drawings for rear leaf spring hanger locations for a 2 WD longbed 67 C20. All the drawings I have come across only show coil spring frames or 4X4 leaf frames.

I want to convert my coil springs to leaves but need to know the specific location of the spring hangers on the frame.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a pair of leaf spring frame rails out behind the shop I might be able to measure later. I am making cookies so I can't go out right now. There are drawings of the frames in the chassis service manuals. The measurements are a few pages back from the drawings. You might check on that.

Doc, thanks for your reply. I have the GM chassis manuals for 1967 and 1970 C10-30 series trucks and they only show the coil spring rear frame or 4X4 frame with leaves. Those pictured on this forum are the same ones as the ones in my manuals.

OK, lets see if I can make this understandable....

I had to measure from the rear of the frame since the front is cut off. This is what I came up with.

From top rear corner of frame rail to top set of rivet holes: 11 5/8 - 16 1/2 --- 63 7/8 - 70 1/8.

From bottom rear corner of frame rail to bottom set of rivet holes: 11 9/16 - 16 11/16 --- 63 7/8 - 68 1/8

Doc, thanks for taking the time to take a pic, measure and post the dimensions for me. They will help a lot.



As for the inquiring mind, I plan on running 19.5s on the truck. Leaves will make sure there are no clearance issues.
My trailing arms are also rotted out. Rather than replace them, I will change the coils out to leaves. I have always preferred the ride of the leaves over coils in my trucks anyway.

No problem. If you need any other measurements let me know.

Once you get one of the holes drilled in each bracket and a bolt installed you can clamp the brackets in place and use a transfer punch to mark the rest of the holes in each bracket. I recommend drilling them out so a 7/16 inch bolt fits snug in the hole. I use grade 8 bolts for that type of application.

I was planning on buying new springs, shackles and hangers.

Hopefully I can find a set specific for 67-72 Chevys.
