driveshafts

did 72 shorties have a one or a two piece driveshaft?

I think it depends on the tranny/engine combo.
I have never seen a 2 pc on a SWB, but I hear they exist.

My 69 short step had a 2 piece in it. It came with a powerglide originally. when I put in the TH-350, it was the same length, so I was able to keep the 2 piece. I am going to put in a 1 piece when I put it back together though.

ON mine, a 69 SWB witha small block and a TH350 short shaft (like it is supposed to have) and a coil rear, the drive shaft is 4 foot 10 inches from center to center on the U-joint holes.

The frame from my 67 SWB has a carrier for a 2 piece. It didn't have the shaft when I got it though.

My '70 short (I6/3-sp. manual) is 1-piece, but I don't think the transmission is original because it has a rear mount hanging on it even though it is mounted off the bellhousing, so it could be modified.
