I used a tool that I borrowed from a friend to pre-lube my son's 327. My friend owns a high performance Boat shop and uses this all the time to pre-lube motors.

It got stuck do to "user error". There is a rod that slides 'freely' inside the main assembly.

I installed it fine, pre-lubed the motor great. But then I messed up... instead of grabbing the rod at the top and either pulling it out first, or holding it and pulling the whole assembly out at once, well, I didn't think and I grab the main assembly and pulled up. Now it is STUCK, and I mean REALLY EFFEN STUCK! I hit it with a rubber mallet, used a 36" pry bar, channel locks, tied a strap around it and pulled up so hard that I though I lost a nut. Still nothing, IT WON'T BUDGE.

I believe as I lifted the assembly up, the rod slid off the oil pump and slid over to the side, and now it's "wedged" there. I can lift the main assemble up and down about 2-3", and it will rotate 360, but the 'inner' rod won't give at all.

Any ideas or suggestion on how to get this out?

Would removing the pump from underneath (pull pan) be of any help?

Without seeing how the oil pump priming tool is stuck, I would remove the intake manifold. This will probably get moved to the engine/drivetrain section.

You may want to try one of the slide hammer visegrip tools. I made one for pulling pins. The impact of the hammer may "unstick" the shaft.

This seems to be one of my only remaining options.

The other is to cut the outer housing of the assembly off down low enough to get to the rod itself, then try pulling the rod out.

If you removed the intake manifold, you should be able to see how it is stuck. Can you take a photo of it without the intake?

My SWAG is that the body of the priming tool is aluminum and semi welded from spinning the the hole in the manifold or worse, in the block.

Try spinning it a bit with some PB Busters sprayed in there and use the nice slide hammer vice grip, or remove the intake manifold to see it is loose at that point.

If in fact The rod did wedge itself on the oil pump and you putting force on it I dont think I would trust the oil pump shaft to be straight with that kind if force on it . In my eyes I would have to remove the oil pan and pump to free thinks up things to get it out . If you do not have a good way the check the pump shaft to be not bent I would replace it .

or pump at this point,, Drop the pan, probably going to have to drop the oil pump to get the primer tool free. See what was wedged, what you were prying on and what may be damaged. You really don't want to risk the entire motor over a $60 pump and day of effort do you.

This may be over-simplifying but on the pump shaft is a collar that locks on to the distributor shaft, could it be the collar holding the shaft from pulling up? It can hold pretty tight as I recall.

That tool should have been built like the steel oil pump drive shafts with a collar around the outside to hold it onto the oil pump. I'd call it a design flaw since it failed and jammed. I would be nervous about the pump now as well. It sounds like there is no easy answer. A POS tool burned you and you're now in the school of hard knocks. I would be screaming and throwing stuff at this point. It still doesn't seem possible that it could get out of line enough to get jammed but what else could it be? Best of luck.
