Re: Rear widths..

Stock width for a 1966 is 62" from drum to drum (point where the wheels mount).
The width for a 1971/1972 is 63.5" from drum to drum. The 1973 up rear ends are wider still.

Great info thanks!

The later model disc brake explorer 31 spine 8.8's are 60.25 wide. Thats a pretty decent rear for the money.

Re: Rear widths..

So rear track width would narrow up 1" on each side with a 61.5" rear.. I have a later 71+ 5-lug rear.

I thought the 73 up were the same width as the late 70-72 style?

Re: Rear widths..

By my calculations (should have measured when the wheels were off) it's 63.5" wide. My tires messure out to almost exactly 12" I have a 12" draglite with a 7.5" BS. So total width tire edge to tire edge is 74.5" - 11" for the total BS and I get 63.5".

I am looking for a 9" right now that is 61.5" - 63.5" to replace the 12 bolt with. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: Rear widths..

the exporer rear would be just a little narrow at 60.25 with 31 spline axles. just put a spool in it and it sould be pretty good for cheap.

Re: Rear widths..

I haven't done his yet! I will do my little brothers first! I run a 4.30 with a 33 tire. I might do a 3.73 or 4.10with your shorter tire and spray it dead out of the hole!
