spid tag on box engine conv vs closed positive

I was thinking the other day about the spid tag on the glove box . Maybe i am wrong when it says Engine Conversion . I think this was when a California built truck was shipped to a another state. So they would not install the Closed Positive Vent on these trucks because all California trucks would have this . Has anybody seen this on a non California built truck?

Re: spid tag on box engine conv vs closed positive

I always thought that is correct on the Fremont, CA built 1966 trucks. It later was just listed as Calif Emmisions on the 67-72 up I believe. Anyway here is a new Lambrecht Chevrolet ordered and delivered to them in Nebraska from the Fremont, CA assembly plant. It does not have a closed pcv system and it states engine conversion on the base 250 6 cylinder engine. Mark

Re: spid tag on box engine conv vs closed positive

I looked into this awhile back as one of my 66s has it. All the ports for the smog tubes are plugged in the head with pipe plugs, 250 six cylinder. I think I had found some info in the assembly manual. So I think you are correct, that the vehicles were converted when being shipped outside California. Also , I think Clemdaddy has a 327 truck he posted about with the engine conversion listed.

What you are referring to is NOT the PCV system BUT the "Secondary air injection system" as explained here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_air_injection

See posts 11-17 to support the idea that they were converted to non-AIR engines -

Re: spid tag on box engine conv vs closed positive

i am talking about the pvc setup . my two trucks had regular exhaust no plugs or taps . would that air injection system use a air pump? I have never seen a air pump on a 66 chevy truck does anybody have one?

Clemdaddy , Thank you for posting. Can you post pictures of your engine please ? Im curious what it looks like with air cleaner off and the bottom of the air cleaner , if theres a tube or not. Also seeing if the exhaust manifolds were plugged.

Re: spid tag on box engine conv vs closed positive

Here's my '66 292/PG w/ AIR. Except for a few hose clamps it was all original and working. Was because I removed it all to make way for a power steering pump since there was no hope of finding the correct brackets for a L25/M35/K19/N40 engine. I documented it all and stored it safely. Built in Fremont, delivered to a CA Dealer.
