66 gmc long wheel base frame swap

I found a 95 suburban that I was going to just use the engine out of but may be able to purchase the whole truck for not much more money. Can anybody tell me if they've ever done a frame swap to independent front suspension with a 60s era pick up? If so, is the width close or is it gonna be some work to shorten the frame and get body mounts lined up and so on. Thanks in advance and any help or guidance would be appreciated!

I wouldn't bother trying to use the '95 Suburban for various reasons that I post everytime this question comes up. There will be a huge amount of fabrication involved plus the possible legal issues, particularly here in Idaho.

To upgrade your steering and brakes, just use the '71-'86 C series or '87-'91 R series components as has been done thousands of times. There are many threads all about doing so found in the '60-'66 FAQ index at the top of the '60-'66 forum page.

@ Captainfab: Sorry, guess I should've also said that it was 4×4. But you probably figured that out. And of course my ultimate goal is to gain front disc brakes mainly. Will the 73 through 91 4×4 suburban be my closest bet then?

If your truck is a 4x4 then all you need is a front diff from a '70-'86 K series or a '87-'91 V series truck, Suburban or Blazer. May as well go with the power steering while you're at it. I make the steering box adapter plate as well as a booster bracket for the '63-'66 trucks.
