Short wide box prices where you live
What does a short wide box in good shape for a 67-72 typically sell for where you live?

I recently bought a disassembled short wide minus the floor & tailgate for 650. I had been interested in others as far away as Houston & Abiliene but the initial price was higher plus the added costs of a road trip. The bed I found was from a board member in the Arlington area.
If I hadn't found these bedsides I might have considered Goodmarks, but there has been a lot of discussion lately about their quality of fit. I didn't want to spend almost a grand & then they don't fit good or the bodylines don't match. You could prob find one for 700-1000$ depending on the finished quality your looking for.

I would think a plain short wide bed in good shape would be worth $500 if it were complete.
Extra nice with all the chrome and a straight tailgate maybe a grand. I am always off on these kind of things though.

When I was looking, I couldn't find any under 1000 that didn't need work. I am rather picky though & was mainly looking for original paint still attached (dents ok, but no primer jobs). There are a lot of good bodymen out there but there's also a bunch that just love to pile on bondo w/o actually pulling the dents first or properly removing rust. They then hide it under a fresh coat of primer saying 'it's ready for paint'. I freakin hate big globs of bondo . . ....

When I was looking I couldn't even find a nice one so I have no idea what it would cost. I finally found a dented but rust free bed w/o gate for $75 and was lucky to find that. A day or two of work on the bedsides and they should be fine the floor could be salvaged but I think it would take a week of hammering to get it to show type finish. I'm leaning toward the wood convertion since the front panel needs a lot of work anyway. I would have handed over $1,000 for a nice bed in a heartbeat.

I paid 1000 for my beat up short/wide GMC. I was able to drive it home...but I shouldn't have.
This was in the Fort Hood area in TX in 2001. |

i have two
one needs work, one needs more work. Pretty decent beds. I have had guys say they wanted them, but they never came through with the dough. I would take 600 for both. Last really nice one I had sold for 675.00.

I have sold several for 500-650 range. A couple around 900 and 1200. I have one i turned down 1500, because i need it. I have 2-3 i would not take 1500-2000 for. The beds and cabs are the hardest items to find for these trucks.

i have sold 2 for 400 to 500 dollars that were in excellent shape. if anyone is desperate and willing to travel, i have sources that can get 'em for 300 to 500 (depending on condition). pm me if you're in need, there quite a few around here and not many rot here unless they're abused.

A buddy of mine at a tow yard in the vicinity sells me beds for $100 short, long, step, any year.Ive bought 6 SWB beds in the last year and 2 steps.i sell depending on certain things, nice rust free $500,good $400,fair $300,getting beaterish $200 also depends on floor,i bought a bent bed with mint floor and sold the floor for $400,or i might sell a primo side for $300.just depends. I also bought a box at a boneyard where i didnt know the guy, they charged $250.Seems like short trucks here are more common.when i lived in Washington it was the opposite, and a junk bed still brought a few hundred and up to a grand.OUCH
