Clutch noise

Last fall before I quit driving my 67 GMC 250 inline with granny gear 4 speed, a noise and vibration in the clutch pedal started.. if you apply the clutch or just barely put your foot on the clutch it goes away....

I'm saying this is a bad Throw out (clutch release) bearing others say possibly the pilot bearing or bushing..

More likely the clutch fork is at fault.

Try adjusting more free play into the linkage. Make sure the return spring is on there & good. It may be that the adjustment is at a point were the fork is barely touching the TO brg or the brg. touching the clutch fingers causing the noise.

If your transmission is in neutral and the engine is running with the clutch out your pilot bearing is not turning because your input shaft is locked to the crankshaft 1 to 1. If you put your truck in gear and push your clutch in then the pilot bearing is turning. I'm thinking fork, throw out bearing. Check it as soon as you can because if your throw out bearing locks up it will spin on your bearing retainer and ruin it (The part your throw out bearing slides on) . Lube the fork pivot points, dry pivot points can cause noises.

Maybe!
One of the pins on the end of the fork might be missing allowing the tob to move around.
Look at the pins on the end of the fork in here.

Well this afternoon I climbed under the truck and got to looking things over..it appears the clutch fork is moving up and down on the ball, and it's possible the fork is hitting on the pressure plate when the pedal is released..

Sadly the fix is tearing it apart.
Trans needs to be moved out of the way to access the fork.
The job will snowball of course.
Best to put in a new clutch, surface the flywheel etc.
Heavy duty jack needed to lift out your granny gear trans too.

Is there supposed to be a nut on the clutch rod near the fork?

I have read and saw others with a nut there.

You are missing a piece that goes between the rod & the fork. LMC calls it a nut in there diagram. It isn't it has no threads, so I don't know what it should be called. But you are missing it. Number 3 in this diagram.
