Question about heater core? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'n trying to seal up my cab a bit and have a question. where the heater core connections come out of the heater box is very open and I lose a lot of air through those openings. Is there something you can put around those to seal up the box some. I always see some black stuff on A.C. boxes, but I never see any on heater boxes. Would plumbers putty work? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks!

I'm probably going to use black RTV around mine. Alot of the fuel smell probably comes through there too.

Your probably right aboutthe fuel smell. Black RTV, HHMMMMMM.

I cut foam rings and placed them around the tubes and then installed the core into the housing. Seals out the air fine and also wont make the tubes stick to the brittle housing. If you ever have a need to replace the core, you could dammage the housing tryint to take it apart with the RTV there. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

black foam pipe insulation at the hardware/lumber yard works. I have also used carpet pad in a pinch on a beater truck.

I plan on using 3M Flexible Strip Caulk 20 yd. Eastwood carries it and it is affordable.

I used the black foam pipe insulation like da-burb. I think I got 10 feet for less than $5.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't come out with a plug to fit these openings around the pipes......

for the heater box to firewall i made a gasket out of the foam weather stip that has adhesieve on one side like youd use on a door 3M makes it and ya find it in Home Depot. I made rubber gaskets out of the pipe insulation for the around the heater core outlets . Ive recently replaced the holes throught he firewall where the clutch foes through with new rubber pieces.
by the way if ya got a floor shift the rubber insulation makes a great shifter insulation
