Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

Anyone out there with 3/4 ton running gear and mud tires I'd love to see some pictures. My Blazer is almost complete and I've decided on the Nitto mud grappler tires at 37" but not sure what wheel size to get between 17" - 22" So if you guys that own some would be so kind to post a picture or two of what you got with a brief description I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

Here's a pic of my 69 K20 with 35" Super Swamper SSR's on 16 x 8" rims. I think a 17" rim looks really good with a 35-37" tire.

And here is my 70 K5 with 3/4 ton running gear temporarily using my 69's 35" tires.

Re: Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

awesome Thanks! How much lift is on ur 69? I have a 2" body lift and 4" all suspension lift on my Blazer my avatar pic is before the 2" body lift.
I think 37"s should fit ok. After all the money invested it'll be a pavement pounder, for the first couple years anyway.

Presently the 69 has about 10" of lift but will be down a couple inches in the very near future as I'm making some changes to allow me to remove some of the body lift I had to add when I had major firewall issues from swapping in a bbc.

Re: Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

I think 17-18-20 inch wheels will be OK in a 35-37" tall tire, but the cost goes up as the rim size does!! The good part about a bigger wheel with a tall tire is that you get less sidewall and with less sidewall you get less flex. Sidewall isn't all bad, so find a happy medium with a bigger wheel and some sidewall as a bit of sidewall also cushions the rig. No sidewall is like rolling on rocks instead of rubber tires. I'd think 37s would fit your rig as a 2' suspension lift is OK to get 35s on and with 2"+4" of lift you should be OK. If it is going to be a pavement pounder why use a lift and big tires, just asking as the price of gas seems pretty happy climbing instead of going down, and big tires means rolling resistance and therefor MPG suffers. I am sure you know that already, so I'll leave it at that. Check out tire rack, discount tire, and 4wheel parts for the 37s in 17", 18" and 20" and get an idea of the price difference and go from there. I was going to put a decent offroad, mud snow tire on my 4X suburban with my 20" wheels until I saw the cost of the rubber, ended up using a Michelin M&S tire. 20's are pricey in the agressive treads for some reason??

Re: Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

I've been restoring this thing for 4 years what started as just doing some body work and paint turned into a restore although I did not take the body off the frame as I had no means to do so. I have or will have replaced just about everything on the Blazer so after pumping so much cash into it I think the first couple of years I will be just taking it to car shows and weekend cruises after the newness wears off it'll be back off road as it was meant to be. This is the best off-road truck I have ever had so it's absence from the mud will just have to be a couple more years.

It currently has 35"s with 16.5 wheels so if there are some pictures out there with 20s I'd really like to see what it would look like!

Re: Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

Oversize tires on 4wds should have a functional look,at least. The trend towards blingy hoops and less rubber is a step in the wrong direction,IMO.Notice,so far the trucks show 16s.There`s just something foolish about an expensive set of big wheels and tires that look like you`d be afraid to get dirty or scratches on a big 4wd.17s have become a bit standard on newer trucks...for some reason/trend.And,the 4wd magazines seem to accept those. There are lots of hansome alloy wheels out there, including bigbadchev 72`s.I`m not saying there aren`t even fancier ones that wouldn`t look right and I`m talking any 4wd,new/old.Just watch getting too BLVD with it,not that you were thinking to.Personally,I like a wheel on these to have some sort of a classic style and not too far in the current trend direction. All these wheel styles are for new trucks trying to set them apart from the rest of the off-the-lot crowd. These trucks look good with stock wheels. The truck will always look good, but the trendy wheels will start looking dated.I`m just giving an overall aproach, not saying what to do.I`d like to see you choose what you like on your truck.
Here`s a few pics I have saved:

Here`s a truck from Carlisle All Truck show last year. All I hear is how that would be alot nicer with the right wheels:

Tim kinda nailed my thoughts exactly. And that last truck is beautiful but the rims kill it completely to me also. But like Tim said, build it the way you like it - that is who you are trying to please anyway.

Really like the wheels on the red Blazer (same color as mine) also like the star centerlines with the gear look on the lip, looks tuff! Keep them comming guys I really appreciate it. I was looking through the posts of rides problem is most don't say what size wheels they have I'm leaning toward the 17"s but also trying to find a deal on CL to save big money.

Re: Need Ideas for 35 - 37" tire and wheel packages

if i may key in as this might be stating the obvious.
i love the idea of Big rims. but make them Add to the look of your truck. i see to many rides nowadays that people Get the Flashiest rims and tires possible wich look great on a rack but they never seem to match the vehicle and ruins everything.

another thought is if your going off road the wheels will get ruined one way or another and hinder your airdowns/alot more unsprung weight.

personally 18/20's and 37s would look good to me

I think 37" tires on anything over 18" would look like a blingy mall cruiser. Just my opinion. I'm running my 37s on 17 inch old school slots and they look about right to me. Wish they weren't polished though.
