Re: Craigslist find: 62 apache fleet sb

Are these trucks rare somewhere? I guess maybe people dont see them much, but here in Phoenix there are at least 20 on Craigslist ......Panels, Suburbans, Longs, Shorts, Fleets and Steppers, GMC, and 4x4. Price range is from 500 to 22.5k.....actually one listed for 56k....that guy as yet to come up for oxygen.....I guess this is my informal poll. Is it because I live in a large area? Just wondering others experiences.

In my area (North Georgia) their not rare just hard too locate one in good shape. A good one here would be a total loss in the west. I'm always looking for a diamond in the rough. Here is what just popped up here on CL for $500 (sorry for the jacking)

Re: Craigslist find: 62 apache fleet sb

I think I started the jacking, Alan. I was just curious; I always see finds on here and wondered what others see. The one for 22.5k in my area still needs the a/c hooked up......but there are some trucks in about the same shape here.

A large area where they stay put. Plus the weather is kind to the body work.
A lot left in the LA area too...but many have traveled south of the border.

Too bad I'm only an hour drive from Orlando and just happen to need an early 60's cab. Too bad he wants way more than I can (or am willing) to pay

Re: Craigslist find: 62 apache fleet sb

The truck is here in longwood has been posted for about 4 months. I have not seen many eary 60 chevy but there are quite a feww 4-5-6's running around town. The guy wants a bit much for it so it will continue to sit. he's got another I think a 65 that he is parting out. you can kinda see it in the background.

Re: Craigslist find: 62 apache fleet sb

I just bought my 62' in Artesia, NM for $2000 last week and now there is a 64' shortbed with 0 rust and a 350 selling for $4000 on main street. Looks nice but i thought it was a little high for something that was far from original. Mine is all original

I'm not faar from you and My experience is similar.
A nice truck is overpriced, while a decently priced truck is usually a p.o.s.
Someday, time and money will fall in my hands for a west coast buying trip.

We took a trip about 5 years ago from Georgia to Montana. Driving thru South Dakota and Wyoming plus a few other states I saw so many cars just sitting in peoples fields. It was driving me crazy not to stop and check them out. Then the fog around my head cleared from day dreaming and realized I was in a minivan and didn't have the fundage to ship anything back. Even if the people would sell.

I was stationed in San Antonio for 8 years. I drove buy a 72 SWB everyday for several years. It had weeds growing up around it in the front yard with trash piled in the bed. I never saw anyone at the house until one day. I stopped and as soon as I got out of the car the old farmer said "it ain't for sale". It's probably a pile of junk now unless he died and the family sold it.

Re: Craigslist find: 62 apache fleet sb

In the southeast valley I used to drive by many farms and dairies that had old trucks parked out in the south 40....usually 50's or 60's series 60-66. I never thought much about them until jonzcustoms and 502 started posting up the 409's that were in some of those trucks. I wanted to go look at them but was afraid of getting shot or finding wasps or bees under the hood.

Re: Craigslist find: 62 apache fleet sb

after looking at all the 60-66's onthe phoenix craigslist, I am thinking that is where to buy...almost all looked like there was no rust, and I bet purchase price+travel price, is less than the cost of patch panel repair-labor+time+materials.
there is a 60 or 61 3/4 ton v8 on the phoenix craigslist for 4k or trade that is just beautiful.
