steering column ?'s

My brothers 87 chevy truck got broken into last night and they tried to steel it by smashing the column. Well now the column is no good and we need another. What year fit and do others fit caprice monte carlos... What should I be looking for? Thanks.

Arrow Re: steering column ?'s

I would stick to one from a C10 and the closer to an '87 the better if his truck has cruise, delay wipers, and 700R4 that's what i'd keep in mine because the older trucks have differant configurations with respects to those items i just mentioned.

As for one from a car if you try to use one out of any GM car i think i would take ALOT of measurements of the truck one because i think the dimentions will probably be different but im not 100% sure about that.

I saw a few the other day on ebay and i think one was from an '87 i'll look again and link it here if i find it.

Here's a few examples i'd go with the rebuilt unit and then you know there will be no problems.

Good luck.

A column from an 84-87 pickup or 84-91 Suburban will be a plug and play. You can replace the turn signal switch to accomodat cruise or intermittent wipers. I know the columns from the 70-80's Camaros are shorter from the firewall to the steering box.

Re: steering column ?'s

you may be able to use parts from another type of GM to repair your existing column.. did they try to tilt it or ust bust up around the key area.. In NYC where such things are common, they actually make cuffs that will go around the existing damaged key area or tilt and allow you to repair the old column but that would be more money than a junkyard column..
I do hope you find out who did this so they dnt come back and vandalize your truck again and i sure hope they learn a good lesson from this imposed by you and your brother

Have purchased from gmtilt (ebay name) and you can't go wrong purchasing from him. You can call and talk to him and he will probably be able to send you one that has all the correct features you need. His web site is http://gmtiltsteeringcolumn.com/ and I believe he has a phone number you can call.
