installation ? for oil pump pickup
Does anyone know the right way to install an oil pump pickup tube in the oil pump on a 72 402 Chevy? The tube diameter is .006 bigger than the bore in the pump. I tried to freeze the tube but it only shrinks .003. Is this common for such a big difference in sizes? Any help would be appreciated.

I played that fight too many times,& got tired of it! I usually grind the tube down for a snug fit & get it located. Then I remove the pump cover, pull the bypass & start the welder. You can weld it with Nickle99,or tack weld it 3 or 4 places with a MIG. When it cools, you need to resurface the cover & clean with hot soapy water & a brush before assembly. good luck........69 longhorn.

the way i did mine was hold the pump securely in something, whatever it may be, then take the pickup and get flush as you can, making sure it will go in straight, and then take a open end wrench on put it on the little bead around the end of the pick up, then smack the wrench with a hammer to drive it into the pump, works very well, got the tip from another board member...
