1950 chevy truck/Toyota 4x4 Axles

I have the front in and began working on the rear, they are from an 1983 toyota. My problem is what to do with the E brake??? I am using the 50 frame just moving spring perches. The toyota axles have the E brake which stick out from the hub and will hit the springs. Looking for ideas/suggestions. Thanks.

You could do a line lock just for the rear brakes..or switch to another axle..maybe zr2..

Also how much space should be between the back of the brake plate and the rear springs? Trying to figure out offset for wheels. I have like 2.5 inches now.

You said you moved the spring pads out so what the gap is supposed to be won't matter..on my 1 ton there's less than 1/8" between the brake backer and the spring u-bolt, 1/2" between tire and leaf spring....from your wheel flange on the axle,, put a straight edge on axle flange, , measure back towards the spring and that will give you a ballpark idea of how much room you have to work with...take into account all the other clearances you have,, bed, frame, spring, fender...if you've got a stock rim and tire stick it on there and see what kind of clearance you have..here's a video lolife made that might help.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=530806

New question two actually.. I have the Axles in new pans in new cab mounts and bushings. Do these cabs normally sit perfectly level? This is up in the front a 1/2 in.. nothing major but I see it... Also i need to do some major cutting on the roof. Would I be better cutting with a saws all or plasma? I was afraid that the plasma would be a little hot on the old and weathered metal. Thanks, I'll post pics one of these days.

Looking good..to answer your question it doesn't look that bad but its sitting on a hill so its hard to get a perspective on it ....level the frame front to back first..then put your level on the floor pan and see where your at...check the cab mount bushings and make sure their not worn..then we'll go from there..mine is level level..

Thanks. I have had the frame level. The front mounts are new and rear bush as well. The 2 front floor braces that the cab bolts go threw don't seem to sit completely tight on the frame. It's almost like the 2 rubber mounts I got are a little thick ???

Is there a way to lift the rear of the cab? The shackles seem to be pretty much set where they are. What...if anything has anyone else done to lift the rear of the cab?

I wouldn't try lifting the rear until you put the front clip and radiator support back on.. if you lift the cab in one place its going to be off somewhere else..when you had the frame level where were you checking the cab level? With the front clip off the cab should be sitting all the way down on the front cab supports..unless something else is holding it up there shouldn't be any space there..if its siting down solid it may be the bushings you have..

These two diagrams from the assembly manual have the measuremnts that the factory says the cab should be off the frame rail. If you can't get it exact it gives you a base so that you can make the front and rear match to fit your needs and keep the cab level. That would also let you figure out how much you need to shim the core support to match what ever the cab is raised from stock if it is raised. It also shows how to lift the rear of the cab with shims between the cab and shackle if needed in the second diagram.

Ok thanks for the feedback. I'm checking level by going under the rocker panel and on top. I was just concerned when I go to put the front clip on how things will line up. It's not a great deal and I suppose a few body shins can help too. The diagrams helpful and did say it SHOULD be off the frame. Thanks.
