Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
So here I sit ... almost 10 years a member on this site, and still wondering if we all have finally, un-equiivicably found what is the VERY BEST'est of all times FITTING, LOOKING, and RIDING late model seats for a 67-72 truck.
Yeah .. that's my question ... 'cause I'm about tired of my stock spring-sprung bench seat. Let's post 'em up ... pics and alll ... for those of us who are ready for a change, to hear your opinions. Thanks. 72 |

Man, it just depends of what type you're interested in. A lot of people are perfectly satisfied with the original one but in my case I went with a rear seat from an 86 crew cab and it's comfortable and looks good. The back flips forward as given benefit. It will be hard to find, though.

I hear 'ya! I like what you did there. My gas tank is removed, so there will be more room to work with if necessary.
I will be looking for a headrest/neck support of some kind. Keep those pics comin' folks!! |

I have a pair of buckets I took out of my 65 Corvair. They have a nice chrome cover over the hinges. I've been thinking of a way to simulates a set of buddy buckets out of them.

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
This isn't a "late model" seat but the guy I brought it from had them recovered and in a 84 chevy truck. If I'm not mistaken he said they came out of a 67-69 Camero. He put the bench seat back in being in a wheelchair it was easier getting in and out. I'm gonna probably cut the seats down some to lower the back and get the covered to match my color scheme. This is the truck they came out of.

2005-2007 Dodge Ram 40/20/40 split with the head rests removed. They'll look like factory bucket seats, (very similar) fit nicely under the rear window and you can always take the center flip out of you don't like it.

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
IMO, what defines a comfortable seat is one that you can sit in for several hours at a time while driving long distances, without your but, back or legs starting to ache. This is not something that can be easily tested when considering a new or used vehicle.
My last new vehicle was a 2006 Ram 2500-4x4. Two of the things I liked most about it was the engine (Cummins) and the nice "Comfortable" cloth covered seats. My first 2000 mile cross country trip I found that I was wrong about the seats. Not as bad as some, but not good. After driving that truck and pulling our 31' camping trailer for several years I decided a 1 ton dually would work better, so I bought a low mileage 98 Ram 3500, also with cloth seats. My first long trip, and to my wife and I's total surprise, this 98 truck has the best seats I've ever had in any vehicle. I have no idea why?? They look almost exactly like the ones in my 2006 Ram (Also just like the ones pictured above in CC69RAT's post.) but there is definitely something different. ??? Since I discovered these seats by complete accident, I've talked to other guys on a Ram forum and several of them share my opinion. Just my 2 cents worth, Ray |

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
CC69Rat,
did you ever install aftermarket or anything other than stock seats in a 67-72 Chevy pickup? I didn't think so ....... It's real easy to take a picture of another make and model truck and THINK they will fit and work ... it's something else to actually do it. Let me know when you have some experience on this subject. |

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
I was trying to help you. But to answer your question, yes I have seen a truck with the Dodge ram seats at Goodguys in Nashville. Added padding and $$ in leather. No, I haven't done it myself but I will be soon.
You're not very good at making friends are you bro? If you're trying to piss me off, you're about to succeed.

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
I've never installed Dodge seats, but a buddy of mine has. He's not a mechanical genius, so it couldn't have been too hard.
I used seats out of a newer Silverado. Whatever seats you use, the process is pretty much the same: Measure to make sure they'll fit. Decide on what you like. Fab whatever brackets you need to put them in. The width on these trucks is good enough that almost anything will fit. It's the front-to-back dimensions you have to worry about. |

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
cc69rat,
Dude, I think you misread my initial response to your first post. I wasn't challenging you. I was saying "it would be great to actually see those seats in one of OUR trucks ... installed with pictures. That's all. You then posted a 'laughing face' and some smug comment. I took offense to it. I don't take crap either. But ... in the interest of not pissing off you or me ... Thank You for your good intentions and contribution to my Thread. I appreciate your contribution. Thanks, 72 |

No worries. No hard feelings, but this has been done before and it does fit. Here's a complete write up on it. I haven't done it myself, no but I do have experience with this conversion. there was a wicked 70 CST at the spring Nashville GG show that was setup using this same seat. I would just take the headrests off. Dodge seats are usually pretty stiff I know but Katskin makes a conversion kit you can get to put leather on them, and of course you can add new foams, etc. Later.

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
Thanks cc69, that's great 'step by step' on installing these seats. Very helpful! I can see that they ARE an option for our trucks.
I have to do some R & D out at the 'pick & pulls' in the area to see how they feel and what's available. Good to know they are a workable option. I remember some years ago there was a Thread on GM seats that went in with not too much fab work. The floor on our trucks is kinda unique, and there is always going to be some fabrication ... but there seemed to be a certain group of years for GM seats that worked well. Could it have been Tahoe or 90 - 92 GM Pickup seats? Thanks. |

Re: Best 'late model' seat of all time ?????
I think the best seats ever built are for the circa-2000 BMW 750iL, of which a very similar variant (but missing the mid-back angle adjustment) is still used in the current Range Rover Autobiography edition. I've owned them both and they're leaps and bounds above Mercedes and Cadillacs that I've ridden in.
I just drove 13 hours straight of mountain roads in the Range Rover, and it actually wasn't bad. They're not a sport seat by any stretch, and might be quite tall in our trucks, though any modern seat will be. The Cadillac Escalade (and probably GMC Denali and maybe the Chevrolet variants) are decent as well, though a distant second. Almost all of these "luxury trucks" are now bucket and console, though, so if you want a bench I'm not of much help....
