undercoating

hey guys,
i ve searched the forum for suggestions on undercoating and havent found what i need. are there any suggestions on which brand to use or any experiences that will help me out. i would prefer getting it locally and not have to have a special gun to spray it.
what i have found so far is: dupli color, 3m in spray cans and a roll on but i forget the brand.
i just got my cab back from the sandblaster and i and finishing up patching the floor so the underside is bare metal. do i need to prime it first?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I would etch prime it, and get a few coats of single stage black (or whatever color) on it, then undercoat it.

I just did this today. The botton of my cab was primed. So I just sprayed professional duplicolor with sound deadener.

It went on pretty easy. I used 4 cans under my cab. Came out to about 24 bucks. Not sure how well it works though since It's just sitting in my shop getting some body work done.

I just primed my undeside, and got the undercoat material at Autozone...it took about 3 or 4 cans, and seemes to cover OK.....just took a day or so to dry completely.....

The proper thing to do right after stripping to bare metal is to solvent clean it and apply a good epoxy primer immediately all over to prevent flash rust. You can the scuff the epoxy primer and apply all body work and undercoating to the epoxy surface. This effectively "encapsulates" the metal and prevents any rust from ever forming under the body filler or undercoating.

anyone have any long term experiences with the paint cans (spray-on) brands? peeling, cracking, falling off...etc

POR-15 is my suggestion. Its super tough, goes on easy, and wil last forever.

I used the 3m spray on stuff on my 65 and it's lasted OK, but for the money powdercoating is the way to go.

i would stay away from por-15.unless it has rust to adhere to it will peel in big pieces.i know personaly of 3 cars its happened to.also if you use it on the floor boards and they get warm it will get tacky again.that happened to a guy who used it in his race car.i will only use www.lizardskin.com

Hey well I undercoated my cab, front clip and the rear fenders with Hurculiner which you can pick up at any of your local parts store. If you buy the gallon kit it comes with the textured roller and a brush. It's rubberized and goes on thick to prevent rust as well as noise.
