EDIT 2wd SWB differences

I think I might try to locate another '72 frame to begin my build up, but was curious if there's any differences between the 67-72 SWB frames.

Are they pretty well the same across the years?

I'm building a '72 SWB, and would like to locate a '72 frame, but I wanted to see if I will be able to broaden my search field to the other years they were offered.

Sorry guys I failed to mention this is for 2wd.

I know there will be a difference in the 2wd and 4wd frames, but mainly looking at any difference in the 67-72 2wd SWB frames.

The only difference I know is that the ' 67 does not have the dimple for the steering box.

the 67 and some of the early 68 frames (mine) didnt have the dimple nor did they have the provisions for a big block, i had to cut part of the top of the frame to clear my headers.

67/68 have smaller holes in the core support mounts and use different bushings.

So from what I've gathered:

67 - no PS pump dent/smaller core support mounts/different bushings

68 - smaller core support mounts/different bushings

69-72 - fairly the same

This will help broaden my search for a good SWB frame, to hopefully begin my restoration.

The indentation is for the steering gear not the pump....

also, the metal used starting in 71 was a stronger steel. Per GM's records, 70 and older should not be heated up or drilled, while 71 and up is OK to do so.
We have prooven time and time again that it is OK to heat and drill the older ones, but the steel is still stronger on the later ones.
