Ignition switch

I got told today that the 70-72 trucks had the option for the switch to be mounted in the column is that true?

Re: Ignition switch

Nope. Not until the '73's did the trucks have ignition on the column. Somebody was mis-informed.

Re: Ignition switch

I never heard of that option. I've owned and looked at these trucks for more years that I care to say, and I've never seen one with the column ignition unless it was converted.

If it was an option, it was a rare one.

I think whoever told the guy that was pulling his leg... Someone probably changed the column and told him that when they sold him the truck. If it was an option it would be listed on the glove box sticker.....

Do the door locks use the same key as the ignition? I bet not. If the lock is in the steering column he would need an ignition cylinder for a later GM truck. The cylinder needs to be the one with a retaining clip that holds in in, not the one with a screw. The Briggs & Stratton part number is 607893. I don't know if the parts houses can cross that number over or not. If not let me know and I will see if I can come up with another number...
