2002 2500hd cclb 6.0l gas 5 speed

Hey everyone, just got my hands on what I think is kind d of an oddball truck. It's a 3/4 ton, 6.0l gas, crew cab, 8 foot box, 2wd, 5 speed. Weird combination, it used to be a department of highways truck. Not sure where to go with it, but I do know that eventually the drivetrain will be swapped into my 84 c10. In the meantime, I'll be fixing this up and using it for hauling. It used to be green, I've been thinking of taking some of the yellow off for a kind of fake patina look. I've also been considering making it a dually. Anyway here's some pics, it needs a really good cleaning before I do anything with it, and I've already found some good used front seats I'll be picking them up after the holidays. What's everyone think, has anyone ever seen one setup this way from factory?

Completely forgot about this thread, so here's an update. While changing the lower ball joints, the truck fell off the jackstands and landed on me. I was on my side under the frame, supporting the entire weight of that corner of the truck.
Having survived that, I junked the truck shortly after and parted it out. In the end, I got the engine, transmission, ecu, wiring harness, hydro brakes, and a few other goodies to put on my 1984 C10 for about $400.

Glad to hear you survived that! My worst fear when working under a vehicle.

The NH state DOT had a huge fleet of orange 2002-ish extended cab long bed 2wd 2500HD trucks with the 5 speed. Ordered as cheap as possible, full vinyl seats, etc. Can't remember if they had AC. I still see some of them around sometimes.

That's what the New Brunswick DOT did too, except we use road salt heavily in the winter so there aren't many left here. That's the first and only one I've seen in person, which is why I bought it. Saving up now for some good parts for swapping the engine and trans into my 84 C10. Looking at a holley ecu setup, as well as their retrofit fuel pumps. I'd also like to have the transmission rebuilt first, it was a little sketchy getting into 3rd and 5th sometimes. Never jumped out of gear though, just had to baby it into gear.

Wow, I didn't know that something like that was survivable. I liked the look of that truck with the orangish yellow. But since it went all Christine on you, I'm stoked to see you put the parts to use in a square body. Do you have a build thread for that?

For people that want to put a manual transmission behind their LS the 2wd manual transmission VIN for this truck is valuable.

You can flash the PCM using AC Delco TIS, an MDI or Tech 2, and this VIN.
1GCHC23U22F172096

Once you have a baseline original GM flash you can save it and tweak the PCM with HP Tuners or something similar.

RTFM... GM Parts Books, GM Schematics, GM service manuals, and GM training materials...Please include at least the year and model in your threads. It'll be easier to answer your questions.
And please let us know if and how your repairs were successful.

"Went all Christine on you" hahaha I like that! Here's the link. I haven't posted any updates, decided to get married since everything happened and ended up working on restoring my fiance's vw instead since my c10 is at least on the road. With her car nearly done I'm getting back into my c10 now, so updates are coming.
