Re: serial number plate

They have them at http://www.fillingstation.com

Search their online catalog for I.D.Plate

and you'll find this for the '47-'52

That would be http://www.harborfreight.com/36-piec...g-set-800.html

I have one, the font is wrong for the GM #.

BTW stamping your own VIN # is up to you as its illegal in most states.

Re: serial number plate

Finding the right Font for the number and letter stamps is a real issue.
I bought one for the 48 and am going to restamp it but am going to keep the old painted over, torn and bent one in the truck and may mount it up just out of sight somewhere inside the truck.

I bought mine from these guys http://www.classicparts.com/Paint-De...oducts/848/2/0 Not cheap but nice quality and the service was good. And it perfectly matches the original.

Remember that these have the gross weight printed on them so if you have a 3/4 ton it will need a different weight designation than a 1/2 ton.

The numbers were apparently hand stamped as all three tags for the three cabs I have with tags are all a bit different but do have a certain pattern as to how they are laid out.

Re: serial number plate

That's good news. So many of these trucks lost their door post plates over the years because guys pulled them off when they painted the trucks and they got lost or they forgot to put them back on. Or like the one on my truck they got damaged so bad over the years that they are in real bad shape.
