Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

Are these the ones they called modular or something like that? If so I do need a pair to fit a 71/72 C10. Do they require any other parts? I was thinking they needed some sort of bracket? I have no idea =)

Let me know how to order these please.

I think these are the brand new CPP spindles that use all OEM braking/suspension components. They do also make a modular design one but these are "stock" style.

Also, is that price shipped?

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

Look good so far. I need a little extra room that's why I had my eye on the modulars. But if these move the wheel in the same amount as the modulars, I would rather have these.

Will take a set for sure if this is the case.

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

Do these spindles move each wheel in 3/4" over the stock 71/72 disc brake spindle (which would match 67-70 drum brake spindles), or do they move them back in 3/4" over the standard 2 1/2" drop spindles (which would move them back to the stock 71/72 disc brake spindle location)?

Do they use 71/72 ball joints and tie rod ends or 73-87 stuff?

1.These spindals move each wheel in 3/4 per side

2.You can use your stock ball joints if you want to with these spindals

3.Cpp does have ball joints for 63-70 71-72 73-87

Part number for
63-70 cpp 3010-6-2
71-72 cpp 3010-6-3
73-87 cpp 3010-6-4
These part numbers are for new ball joints and they are $100.00 for all 4 and this is a retail price and forum price on these will be $90.00 for the set

Keep in mind these spindals will not push your track out all when you install them on your truck

These spindals can only be used for disc brakes only

The factory tierods can be used as well with the spindals or you can buy new ones if you would want to.

I think I may have confused you with my questions so I'll try and clarify.

When GM added disc brakes to the C10's in 71 they shifted each wheel out approximately 3/4" more than the drum brake spindles and they did the same with the 5 bolt rear ends to makes sure the front and rear had the same spacing. When drop spindles came around they pushed the wheel out an additional 3/4". My question to you is when you say "moves the wheel in 3/4" per side" is this in reference to the stock 71/72 spindles or compared to the drop spindles?

Regarding ball joints and tie rod ends, the 63-70, 71/72, and 73-87 are all different parts and the spindles will be bored for one of the three, unless they offer three different spindles.

I'm not trying to be a pain, but this information is important before I decide to order.

Thanks

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

I believe CPP will make these in 3 different spindle versions.
I have yet to find the part numbers on the internet.

Have you confirmed that "drop spindles" push the wheels out 3/4" per side?
I've heard that for years,... but never confirmed it myself.

Adding drop springs also increases the track width due to the lower a-arms being at a "flatter" angle.
(more parallel to the ground)

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

I had a long talk with Mario today from cpp he confirms with there dropped spindals the track width will not get wider like other manufacture spindals he said the track is narrow 3/4 per side and it will not be any wider than the stock track is on your year of truck you have. Before I got off the phone with him today I asked him one more time and he told me again the track will not get any wider with there dropped spindals at all.

I am not repeating myself here I asked this question several times with him today on the phone and on friday with Jeff a few times as well.Jeff confirmed this with me to

Hopefully this helps you all out.

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

I think what member mahanian is trying to say is the 60-70 trucks have a narrower track with than the 71-87 trucks.
(only because they are drum brake trucks)

So which track width do these match?
60-70?
71-87?

In all reality,... it doesn't really matter.
These trucks will always have a wider front track width.
The rearends have always been narrower.

The CPP "new" spindle will bring your wheels in 3/4" per side,... compared to all other drop spindles.

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

There are 3 differnt type of ball joints in those years.Last week in cookville tnn we installed a set of cpp dropped spindals on a buddys 65 and the ball joints had to be changed on his truck so they would bolt up.

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

Yes you are correct and Mario at cpp told me today it will have the same track width as the stock truck does.As you know these are for disc brake trucks and all the trucks that have drum brakes will have to be upgraded to disc

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

Ok thanks for the info. Basically on a 71/72 this will drop your truck without pushing out the track like most other drop spindles do (I'm pretty sure I have this correct lol). It will keep the track stock.

This means I cant use these because I want my track narrowed a little bit from stock. I believe their modular spindles do this. I will have to call CPP to make sure the modulars do what I think they do.

Mark is 100% correct... if you have the pre '71 setup, these will widen the front track width.

While I didn't use CPP spindles, they are esentially all the same no matter where you get them with the exception of the "modular drop spindles." On my 4.5/6" drop on a '69, it widened the track width .75" on each side (1.5" overall). Just want to make sure people understand what will happen with pre '71 trucks before purchasing.

Adding drop spindles to a pre '71 is not a 'stock option' thus they will not retain the same track width.

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

It kind of looks like a cross between the "Modular" and regular drop spindle. CPP's modular spindle had a 2" drop and the regular had a 2.5" drop. The modular spindle required disk brake bracket kit but this one is built in. If I can verify that these won't widen my 64's front track (drum brakes changing to disk) more than the 1/4" or so that the "Modular" spindle would I'm all over it.

Two quick questions:
Will these work on my 64 with the 6 lug steel rally wheels (clearance between lower control arm and rim)?

Can you run a dust cover on the behind the disks?

Thanks

I doubt it.
These are 2.25" drop spindles (according to Scott's).
(see below)
The spindle is not the issue.
The contact point in the lower a-arm (balljoint area) and the rim of the 15" wheel.
Trimming the a-arm will fix this.

The regular "Modular" spindle from CPP is only a 2" drop.
Those might clear,... but I don't know for sure.

Re: CPP Drop Spindle Special

Here is some more info from Jeff at cpp this morning on the phone.

The spindal you see here in the link forum special is a little over 2 1/4 drop spindal and they will allow you to bolt up your factory disc brakes you have or a aftermaket kits.
This will allow you to bolt up the d52 calipers from wilwood as well.

On ther moduler spindal it is for the guys who want to run a bigger brake in the front and this does not have a caliper bracket part of the spindal you will need to use the cpp bracket they offer for the bigger brake. This spindal is also a little over 2 1/4 drop as well
per jeff at Cpp this morning.

Hopefully this helps you all out a little more

Justin
