With the gas prices going up, I need a daily driver too..

BTW, did they have 4.3 vortec's before 1996??

Yes, but they werent the 'counter-balanced' variety. My X & I had a 2dr 93 4.3 w/tow pkg (3.42's, engine oil cooler, HD cooling) & the digital gauges. Had 130K + miles when she traded it in on a 98swb truck & not 1 drop of oil anywhere on the bottom side of the motor (unbelievable on a chevy).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

From the picture he posted thats a CPI motor. Very early version of the vortec, not as good as the 96+ variety, but better than the regular TBI version.

Hmmm....Check my sig!

Mine's a TBI motor but it's only got about 15-20,000 on a rebuild!
2wd, 4.3, auto, 3.42, AC, PW, PL.
20-23mpg!
Makes a great daily.

The color of the intake and the cover, is that painted? If so it looks good.
