Help!!! 1986 GMC 1 ton dually

I replaced the stoch stereo with a CD player and then noticed after that the tail light/instrument fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse, but when i pull the headlight switch out 1 or 2 clicks it will blow again. I looked thru everything and traced the short to the power from the fuse box to the headlight switch. I cut the orange power wire going to the switch and reinstalled the fuse and the short is gone, but i have no lights. I havent touched it since sunday and last night i went out to look at things. with all the wires hooked back up again the fuse doesnt blow, but i still dont have tail/park lights or instrument panel lights. any suggestions? The headlights work, high and low beam, brake lights work, dome light, and blinker but none other

You likely need to unhook the dimmer wire from your radio. cut it and see what happens. What brand radio is it, Some odd units have a neg triggered dimmer and most have a pos triggered one.

Hey Sounds like a back breaker trying to see under the dash .

Funny I Iam a new memeber and had to tell ya. I have only had my 1984 GMC for 3 days when my son droped a dime in the cig lighter and didnt tell me. It took me a week to work this out .He was helping me cleaning out the inside and their was change in the cig tray .Note The change was not enough to cover the replacement lighter and 2 fuses.

The wire going to the back off the lighter{the Orange one} melted.
