Who to go to for appraisals.

Where would I look for someone to do an appraisal on a vehicle. I have never had one done and have no idea on where to start.

Re: Who to go to for appraisals.

When I bought my low mile survivor off ebay in 2007 The seller had had the foresight to hire an appraiser before listing the truck. Having provided an outside opinion, independent of their own interest was actually a very smart move, as it gave me (and no doubt a few other bidders) a fair deal of confidence when thinking about making a bid. Of course, if the truck turned out to be misrepresented upon inspection (after the auction), I would have walked. Not the case though, the appraisal was totally accurate and the deal was completed in person with cash.
This is just a example of what ONE appraiser does when he write up a report. Others may have another approach entirely.
- for what it's worth, hope it helps.

It must have been a rather high estimate for you to redact it. That was the only thing I was interested in seeing. lol

Re: Who to go to for appraisals.

What I am wanting to know is if I want a vehicle appraised then is this a specialty type of thing. For insurance purposes I would want one appraised. I am assuming that just not anyone does this and that they may be few and far between.

Here are some in IL

http://auto-appraisers.com/illinois/

All I did was type in the heading from the above appraisal sheet (International Association of Automobile Appraisers) into Google. and choose a state... It doesn't list where they are located but I guess you could tell from the phone prefix.

Here is another web site, the ASCAA:

Re: Who to go to for appraisals.

Your specialist insurance carrier will have local recommendations for you, and you will also find local appraisers by google and yellow pages. Research them by checking reviews, make sure that their appraisal will be accepted by your carrier.

Re: Who to go to for appraisals.

Also, realize that insurance appraisals often tend to be higher than actual value. They aren't supposed to be, but that has been my experience.

It's nice for the customer if they ever lose it and need to be compensated, but it is also nice for the insurer in some cases, since they get to charge more for premiums that you hopefully never need.
