How much money to have new front, rear, and posi installed???

Never dealt with axle components before but I was wondering how much would it cost for 4.10 gears front/back and an Eaton posi out back too for a Dana 44/12 Bolt? Would have new bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. installed too. How much just for parts and about how much for labor do you think this would run? Thanks!

if you're going to 4.10s, ditch your 1/2 ton axles. its way more cost effective to swap to a set of 3/4 ton axles than it is to regear 1/2 tons.

Except for the added cost of changing wheels from 6 lug to 8 lug. I would have ran 3/4 ton axles if I had not already bought my wheels at $250/ea.

Are 3/4 ton axle gears cheaper or something? I really don't want to do this since I already bought new 6 lug rims. Plus I really don't see the need for 3/4 ton axle's since I'm not a serious off-roader.

3/4 tons typically come with 4.10s standard. hence no need to worry about changing gears. just bolt em in and go. what kind of wheels did you buy?

It's probably gonna be pricey to buy two new gearsets as well as a posi and having both axles rebuilt and then the labor for it all. You could try searching the internet to find out just how expensive new r&p's cost, as well as a posi unit and rebuilt kits for the axles. As for labor, get quotes from a few local shops...be sure to tell them you are supplying everything they need to do the rebuild.

If you already bought six lug rims and don't offroad much, then just stick with 1/2 ton axles, unless you are going with some big-ass tires (35+ inches). Even then, the 1/2 and 3/4 ton front axle are the exact same except the 3/4 ton has 8 lug outers, and the 3/4 ton axles will just add more $$ to your ongoing expense.

Just curious, what size tires will you be going with?

It'll probably cost somewhere around 1300 to 1400 for gears and the posi. I can't really say about the labor. It depends if you get Joe Smo to do it or if you take it to a shop.

I just changed the gear ratio (4:56 to 3:73) and added a posi, plus all new bearings. Parts were about $600 for the rear only. I wanted to make sure the ratio was to my liking before doing the front. So, I think the price will range from $1500 to $2000 for both axles including labor.

I had 3.07's and rear Detroit in my suburban(Dana 44/12 bolt). I re-geared myself to 4.10's with a front locker(Detroit E-Z locker) too with all new parts for about $900

It's going to be expensive, but well worth it from a drivibility standpoint. This is especially true with tires over 33".

Front gears............................175
Rear gears.............................190
Eaton Posi.............................420
Bearing and shim kit for rear.......80
Pinion seal (Front) & Lube..........20

Parts total (approx)...............885-900
Labor........(100-125 R)(125-150 F)

So it looks like 1200 bucks should get you pretty close. You may get a better deal for doing it all at once, depending upon who does the work.

I have a 1 ton Eaton with a Detroit Locker, not sure what the gearing is (4.10, 4.56, 0r 5.13). But it is a beast of and axel and would be cheaper than re-gearing your old one. If you want it let me know, but shipping to ND might be a little pricey.

dosen't really cost as much as one thinks to ship axles by frieight--shipped a 1 ton dana with posi arb lockers with disc brakes and all for about 300 bucks--and that was from calif to maine....by yellow frieght
hope this helps----as for me if i was to do it over again--i would go dana's front and rear-only with 6 lugs on them....much more choices in rims that way....the shop near me wants 1400-2000-to do what you need done....but only-650-to do the work if i install and uninstall....
good luck
