Rear axle u-bolts replacements

I have been checking local parts stores for U-bolts for my '69. Not that my old ones won't be usable, but it just seems like the right time to put new ones on when reassembling the rear axle ass'y.

Has anyone bought from any of the suppliers of note? NAPA doesn't list any that are the 3/4-inch diameter, like the OEM part.

If you have an automotive spring shop in your area just have them make you some. They may even have some in stock.

Re: Rear axle u-bolts replacements

Sounds like the way to go. My son is parts manager for the local public transportation in Little Rock and deals with several shops, daily. Sounds like a plan. Didn't even think along those lines.

Re: Rear axle u-bolts replacements

Got a new pair, custom bent, for $20. A local shop mis-quoted my son a price of $7 each, but reneged on that when they saw what we were after. The guy claimed he'd worked on Chevy trucks for years, and had never seen U-bolts like mine (3/4-inch) diameter material. Then, he said he'd have charged $17 each, but he backed off and that's where the $20 (total) price came into play. I've seen 'em on-line for $14 each, so I feel good.

My old ones are still usable, but I just decided I wanted new ones, since we took the chassis completely apart, sand-blasted and painted each component.

Re: Rear axle u-bolts replacements

I was quoted $25 each at two differnt spring shops. Things are always a little more expensive up North here.

Re: Rear axle u-bolts replacements

The last ones that I bought were $16 each but they were 2" longer then stock.
Nuts and hard washers were in addition but for 3/4" u-bolts I did not think that was too bad.

Re: Rear axle u-bolts replacements

I got new ones for my 1 ton wrecker at Rockauto.com I think I paid around $10 each. They were gold cad and look so nice, I clear coated them! I think they were 5/8 however as the originals were.

They are longer than needed and I will cut the excess off after I torque them down.
