72 C20 Short Bed... Don't see many of these in my area.

So, as many of us do. I spend sometime cruising the CL classified's in my area. Today I stumbled on this 72 C20 SWB. These, I find these rare to come across in my neck of the woods. This may be like the 3rd I have seen. Though, I have probably seen more than I know, since a bunch of people convert them over to 1/2's. Would make a sweet addition to anyone's collection, or start of one. Looks like a fine point to start a resto. I love these trucks, just wish I had the cash to buy them up with. I would love to see the SPID on this one to see if it is actually a C20 or someone's birth child.

Feel free to share your stories of these C20's SWB's and/or pics of them.

There is one running arond here, its a 4x4 k20, he took a 1/2ton and made a 3/4 out of it.

GM never made a swb C20.
I would look for a cut down frame when inspecting these trucks.

Re: 72 C20 Short Bed... Don't see many of these in my area.

That's common. I know they didn't make a 4x4 3/4ton swb. And haven't seen many of these. I have spent most of my time looking at the 1/2 swb's cause I never ran across a c20 version. I like all these trucks, short or long beds. It doesn't matter. I just find appreciation in all of them. But my preference is short bed.

I was thinking along the same lines of that when I initially seen it. I don't spend much time researching c20's, since I wanted a 1/2 swb from the beginning and have one. But the only talk I have seen on here so far has been they never made a 4x4 swb version in 3/4ton. So, when I seen it as a 2wd, it peaked my interest. Though, I just figured someone converted it with axle and spindles to a 20, or cut the frame down and put the bed on.

Makes for a interesting conversation on here though...lol

You will spend a lot of time looking for an "original" swb C-20, as keith said GM never made any, 4x4 or otherwise... If you see a short C-20, 2wd OR 4wd it has been modified.

The truck is still good looking and a nice base to start with.

Thanks for schooling me on something I haven't researched yet.

It would certainly look good tooling around town. It might ride a little stiff but it would haul a lot of heavy stuff.

Consider the schooling as part of your research..

I agree. It would look good tooling around and I am sure the ride would be stiff for sure. But I could definitely use it for a parts hauler, pull my half ton GMC to show's and such. Just a daily driver kind of truck. I would take a look at it, offer him less on it for sure, tick off the wife doing it...lol Good thing I am not state side right now. I wouldn't have a saving's left, and a very angry wife.

I plan on adding at least one more of these classics to my drive way at some point. Then teach my daughter how to work on them. Don't have a son as of yet, so I have to do what I gotta do. Then, when she graduate's from college.... It's already paid for, so I hope she goes.... I will hand her the key's to one of them.

Re: 72 C20 Short Bed... Don't see many of these in my area.

They never made this version with a truck. But from what I seen with the van's of the era, they made a 3/4ton option. The frame was a short wheel base and had the 3/4ton suspension and lugs on them. Am I correct?

Not saying that this was what was done with this truck, but it could make for a easy 3/4 ton build for a SWB.

Not sure what it has to do with pickups but yes the G10,G20 and G30 vans were offered in both long and short wheelbase unit body vehicles. But then everything is relative. Really almost all C20s were short wheelbase at 127" as there was a 133" C20 Longhorn as well. Plus the C30 short wheelbase was 133" with a 157" long wheelbase. At the other end of the spectrum we have Blazers at 104" that are in reality 1/2 ton trucks with a 5.5' bed, thus the shortest wheelbase.
The fact remains the factory did not offer a 115" wheelbase C20. Putting C20 running gear under a C10 does not make it a C20. The C20 frame is heavier. The only way to build a C20 SWB and retain capacity is to shorten the frame.

I gotta ya... It's all research, and learning what is out there for future projects and such. Never know what I am going to get myself into after I get the current to where I want it. Because once it is there, I will be in search for another to start on. Got to keep my mechanic hands busy.
