Red face transmissions?

I've posted before that I have a turbo 350 tranny in the truck and just don't like not having that overdrive. Here's the question:

can the turbo 350 and go with something else or look into the gear vendors unit and keep the turbo 350?

Like most of us, I'm trying to get the best of both worlds. Good gas mileage and that big pull from a stop. The one thing I do know is I will be moving away from the 411 rear gear and down to 308 or 342.

Re: transmissions?

optimum gear with an overdrive is 373, with a 235 type tire. Dont go with an overdrive and less gear unless your motor makes good torque. A 700 is still cheaper than the vendors unit. 700 built right is a good choice

Re: transmissions?

It's a long way off for me, but I'm gonna go with the Gear Vendor unit, 3:73's, and a TH400. It should pull good thru 1st, and like a monster when I start splitting gears. And if I don't wanna, I don't have to split gears, then just use O/D when needed. Those things look like the greatest thing since sliced bread. Provided I don't have to take out a second mortgage when the time comes.

But yeah, I wouldn't back off on the gears until after I put in the O/D!

Re: transmissions?

What does it cost to have a 700 built right? Ive had pretty bad luck with them & have had very good luck with both TH trannies. Way cheap to rebuild too. Im just wondering if a "built right" 700 will cost close to what the gear vender costs, Id go with the gear vender unit.

Re: transmissions?

1000.00 builds a 700 that will take 400hp without a problem. I know it is hard to find a good tranny guy, there have been lots of 700s built to take 1000hp so i believe they have been studied to death. I build my own and dont have to worry.

Re: transmissions?

so you guys think a set of 342 gears with the turbo 350 and then eventually get the gear vendors unit is the smart move?
