Please help identify this push cable coming out of the tranny going to the engine bay into a dual harness but its not connected to anything in the engine bay. I know its not the speedometer cable this cable is located under\next to the shift rods hopefully you can tell by these few pics.

Looks like the transmission controlled spark controller. The bottom pics are where my relay was for it, then it connects to the trans down by the shifter, but I'm not sure how it connected to the engine, since mine wasn't connected. I know it's one of those things you definitely don't need. Here's a pic of where the relay was mounted on mine, looks like it's in the same place for yours. You can look it up in the service manual. There's a free download on the site if you do a search for it.

It's a transmission controlled vacuum switch.
That wire on the tranny is the ground switch. There's a little plunger inside it that doesn't make a ground contact until you switch to high gear.
The switch provides a ground for another switch up by the carb like in this link.

That one has vacuum supplied to one barb with another hose hooked to your vac advance on the other barb. I can't remember which hose goes where.
It has 12v power to it and the ground wire from it goes to your tranny.
Normal operation is no vacuum to your vac advance until you put it in high gear.
Used on motors where you didn't want or need a lot of timing at lower speeds.

Thank you for the info on the two postings I really appreciate the help. I have no clue what tranny it has but all I know is that the reverse is in the down postion not the up position like my 3 spd ws on my 63. Anyone out there have a clue what Im working with? Did they have 3 spd with reverse in down below 1st gear or am I dealing with a 4 or a five spd. I hve never driven it yet but I have gone through the gears and it seems like it is more than 3 I may be wrong

How many levers on the side?
2 levers means a 3 speed.

3 levers means a 4 speed.
The reverse thing is likely because someone installed the shifter wrong.

Post a pic a little further away and we'll tell you what it is.

Ok well I only have two levers so I guess that clears that up for me and evidently it was installed incorrectly because the reverse is in the opposite direction is this an easy fix or complicated for a novice and can the truck drive the way it is installed?

Simply flip the rectangular bracket the opposite way and bend the linkage rod to fit.
Only problem with bending the rod is it might not be long enough after you put a couple bends in it. Might be just as easy to get used to it.
You might get lucky and find a longer rod or possibly weld an extension on it.

Is 2nd and 3rd normal or reversed too?

Are we talking about the rectangular bracket that the long rod attaches to in this pic? not to sure if 2nd and 3rd are reverse order as well I never drove it. I have just started it and made sure it went forward and backwards and just noticed the reverse ws in a diff position then on my 63. If ou have any pics of how the brackets should be placed I need to see sorry for poor pics

And I see you got lucky with the rods! They haven't been cut off yet. Still have all the threads. Handy if you need to make some bends.
